The World Sucks

Those of you who have them to spare, send prayers and/or money to Mike Vanderboegh, a champion of our Cause.

You ever notice how the people protesting against "censorship" are the same people calling for "some muscle over here" to throw out a guy with a camera, and having tantrums over sidewalk chalk?

You ever notice how the people insisting they don't "discriminate" are the same people who host events where white people are specifically excluded?

You ever notice how the people bleating the loudest about "tolerance" are the same people calling for five million NRA members to be rounded up and exterminated?

By which I mean France, actually overrun with Islamic-terrorist-immigrants but throwing people in jail over emoticons in text messages. ...In my fictional utopia France, in response to the Second Holocaust, launches what I suppose must be called the Third, exterminating Islam in retaliation. France again becomes the world's leading superpower, taking over the United Nations and evolving it into the Terran Empire, which subsequently launches a war of expansionist aggression against those damn Jeffersonian rebels who just wanted to be left alone. That future history hasn't jumped the tracks yet.

  • "The State Department has suspended its internal review into whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or her top aides mishandled emails containing information now deemed 'top secret'." And that's the "system" they keep telling us to "work within".
  • Remember, peasant, only the government can be trusted with EXPLOSIVES IN SCHOOL BUSSES.
  • They like to hurt people. THAT'S WHY THEY BECOME COPS.
  • Think about the kind of people who think civil asset forfeiture is a good idea. And they get upset when we call them thieves.
  • Think about the kind of people who think warrantless blanket searches are no big deal. And they get upset when we call them "Gestapo".
  • Think about the kind of people who would defend a cop who shoots a man in the back for walking away from him. And then give him a nice union job.
  • And they get upset when we call them MURDERERS.
  • Remember, peasant, we don't make the laws, we just enforce them. Tell me how this is different from "literacy" tests for black voters fifty years ago. Tell me again how the "rank and file" "street cops" are different from the "political chiefs" whose orders they always obey. Tell me again how they're "brave community heroes". Tell me again how much "society" "needs" police. Tell me again how "law enforcement supports the Second Amendment".

Speaking of striking back against thieves with badges, a step against asset forfeiture. This has been going on for decades, without even pretending to have due process. We really need to start hanging these thieves....

Don't Go To College, even in Alaska or Texas, where ivory-tower bigots don't want you able to defend yourself and are willing to violate state and federal law to facilitate and attract the next massacre.

Think about the kind of sick hypocritical perverts who "hate violence". And don't want you able to defend yourself.

To which dot connect Federal blackmail of states, using other people's taxes. Makes a fella think about secession, it does.

  • Way back in 1999 the National Instant Check System was implemented, requiring background checks on all firearm purchases through a Federal Firearms Licensee. This results in registration of all such purchases despite "laws" specifically prohibiting the collection and maintenance of such data. It's the same with Operation Choke Point, a deliberate government policy of discrimination against businesses selling Constitutionally-protected products. Tell me again how you're not Nazis.
  • Homeowner's dog breaks loose, attacks police officer in homeOH. WAIT. And the dog won't be put down? And it's handler won't be charged? Because "no one is above the law"?

To which dot connect deliberately murdering jobs. What if it is on purpose?

No seriously, what DOES happen when the EBT cards stop working?

Speaking also of taxes, there was a train wreck near Philadelphia, less than one year after a train wreck in Philadelphia. "The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak, is a partially government-funded American passenger railroad service." With no competition, guaranteed at government gunpoint. I'm just sayin'.

Tell me again how government is "transparent" and "represents the people". This is exactly the kind of behavior that makes people want to buy guns, without "background check" government registration. I need to get out of this horrible place before it sends some hired-thug-with-a-badge to shoot me in the back.

And that's not hyperbole, because dehumanizing an opponent is a precursor to genocide.

Tennessee's Constitutional Carry effort suffers RINO backstabbing. Get in there.

Speaking of backstabbing, tell me again what I'm getting for my NRA life membership.

  • Remember, peasant, you need police to protect you from domestic violence.
  • Remember, peasant, ignorance of the "law" is no excuse.
  • Serial rapists and child-pornographers in your own precinct locker rooms but stealing from people riding bicycles is your priority.
  • Police could take over your self-driving car. And they get upset when we call them "Gestapo".
  • For further example I am reminded that the place where Britain used to be never has been a free country. ORWELL WAS TRYING TO WRITE A WARNING, NOT AN INSTRUCTION MANUAL.
  • "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated"HOW IS THIS NOT CAPITAL FORCIBLE RAPE FOR WHICH THE PERPETRATORS SHOULD HANG BY THE NECK UNTIL DEAD?

In the news, what appears to be one of the last outright handgun bans in United States territory, in the Marianas Islands, has been struck down as unConstitutional, under the 14th Amendment incorporation principles of the Heller and McDonald cases. This is an important precedent which seriously weakens the whole concept of prohibiting self-defense.

In North Carolina, grassroots activism works. Think about the kind of people who want to hold their meetings behind closed doors, or who instruct their staff to filter and ignore certain kinds of communication.

"Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." And anyone who objects or tries to tell the truth about those enemies is driven out and destroyed.

Speaking of the enemy, in my fictional future history, widespread Islamic terrorism results in a resurgent France rising to world dominance while exterminating Islam. Still on track.

Col. Kratman's latest column continues examining the border. "...[W]hat we have getting ready to kick off in the American Southwest is about one hundred times worse than Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles." See also Bracken's Enemies triliogy. And that's why Arizona, despite having Constitutional Carry, is not a leading contender for relocation.

    And as if on cue.

I've said I need to get out of this horrible place before it murders me and that's not hyperbole. "...[The] state attorneys general [of] California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington State, as well as the attorneys general of the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands... are threatening legal action and huge fines against anyone who declines to believe in an unproven scientific theory." And these are the same people who demand separation of church and state....

What if there really is a deliberate and concerted effort to misinform everyone about everything?

Again with the doctors. How is asking if a patient has a gun in the home morally different from asking if they have a Jew in the home? Don't tell me you weren't warned.

"How many BDS idiots would 'boycott' a cure for their cancer, or a new chip for their cell phone made in Judea, out of 'principle'?"

There is a part of me that really wishes there would be a collapse-of-society event so all these preciouslittlesnowflakes would starve, or freeze, or become something's lunch. Instead they're trying to enslave the rest of us through taxes and EBT cards and "hate speech" "laws" and "tolerance" and "inclusiveness" and a "government monopoly on violence".

    Which segues to:

  • I've heard of a place where only the police and military can have guns. It's called North Korea.
  • Okay, so, years ago Australia essentially banned nearly all non-government ownership of firearms. As Our Kind predicted, their crime rates exploded as the criminals discovered a far more comfortable work environment. So the Australian police's solution is to do it again, harder. Remember, peasant, police don't make the "laws".... (That bit's in my fictional future history too.)
  • Any cop who tries to not be a kleptomaniacal back-shooting murderer is driven out and destroyed.

I have never owned a Ruger Mark-series pistol (a 22/45 is on my wi$h li$t), but I gather their disassembly is of the "John-Browning-Didn't-Design-That" variety. (Ditto the Browning BuckMark family, with three hex screws on top. I did own a S&W M22A for a while and that was simple to take apart (also plenty accurate), but cheap stamped-and-riveted guts, and a design flaw in the rear barrel latch, prone to breakage, which mine did once, though the factory fixed it.) I know someone is offering a conversion kit to reduce the number or inconvenience of fiddly-bits. Here is a new tool to simplify the task.

JAYNE COBB NARRATES LARRY CORREIA "It is kind of like a hyper violent American version of Dr. Who, only with more Combat Wombats."

Finished Bujold's Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen, a nice story conspicuously lacking in murderous intrigue or jump-gate-destabilizing wars. It seems to function as a bit of recap for the whole Vorkosigan Saga and gives closure to the main characters. Happy endings for everyone who survived the previous dozen-odd volumes. Beginning Worst Contact, yet another Baen collection.

Okay, so, I'm using Linux now. I'm also using the Opera browser, which I have been for maybe twenty years. In Opera, I have a bazillionty bookmarks, arranged in folders (it was a very warmfuzzy moment when they were successfully imported after I made the jump to Linux). Many of these bookmarks are webcomics, which are arranged by the day of the week based on when they update. Until recently I've been able to select all the bookmarks in a folder, right-click, and open them all at once in new tabs - very convenient. A couple updates ago, however, that function failed. It still works if I try it right after rebooting and launching Opera for the first time, but if I have anything in the Clipboard which I do all the effing time because I'm copy-pasting a bazillionty different things a bazillionty times a day, it just refuses to work. So now I have to use the scroll-wheel-button to launch each link in a new background tab, going down the list. But that has a bug too now; if I have a URL in the clipboard, it adds the URL as a new bookmark in the folder when I click the scroll-wheel-button. Though it also opens a tab with the bookmark I clicked on. Opera Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

One solution would be to find a way to clear the clipboard. Apparently there was a way in Windows, buried under a few layers of maintenance/security menus. In Linux it appears to require an actual application be added to the system and run through the Terminal with actual Linux-language commands. Why has no one come up with a keystroke to do it, in all these years? I propose [Ctrl]-[Shift]-[Z].

Well. At least I'm not running a Bill Gates product anymore.

Even the government school administrators don't trust the government schools with their children. Why should you?

In my fictional future history I predicted the reinstitution of human slavery.

Registration does lead to confiscation. EVERY TIME.

  • Remember, peasant, work within the system which is arbitrarily changed whenever some kitten-stomping church-burning sociopath-with-a-badge feels like it.
  • Radio news, Oregon State Police have "a new fleet of unmarked police cars" - paid for with taxes and tickets - which they use to stalk "distracted drivers" (you know, like the ones using a cellphone while driving) - to whom they then issue tickets - to raise revenue - to buy more cars - to hunt more citizens to write more tickets to raise more revenue to buy more cars to.... But remember, peasant, police are understaffed and underfunded and can't spare the resources to investigate the burglary of your home or the rape of your daughter.
  • Meanwhile, downstate in Springfield, a new "law" will fine citizens for giving money to panhandlers. Because all the real crimes have been solved and police have all that free time? How long until the "panhandlers" are police, just like fake-prostitute-entrapment?

Police are predators and they do view us as prey.
Police are worse than what they claim to be "protecting" us from,
because they know they will get away with robbing us at
implied-or-actual gunpoint, or murdering us if we resist.

I have it on good authority that New York City has been underwater for the last ten months.

...As though that would be a bad thing....

Back here I saw some Smith & Wesson revolvers with telescoped cartridges, the bullet being set back below the case mouth, like the M1895 Nagant gas-seal revolver but not for that reason. I wondered why they did that. Blood Libel o' the Day. It's not Godwin if they really are acting just like Goebbels.

Blood Libel on campus. ...There are people who still read Newsweek? Ewww....

More of the same in Michigan. Genocidal bigots like those are why we buy guns.

Gun registration scheme in Nevada. What have you done to stop it?

Envirofascists kill jobs. And then wonder why new housing costs so much, and then demand subsidies from the taxes of the working-class people whose jobs they killed.

Speaking of killing jobs, FIFTEEN DOLLARS AN HOUR.

Col. Kratman's latest column examines demographic warfare. See also Bracken's Enemies trilogy which examined very much the same concepts. "Note that the ability to terrorize increases as legal access to personal arms falls...." "You know you're screwed when the only solutions you can see, and which you know would work, involve either re-institution of slavery or the recreation of the SS."

To which dot connect Immigrants. Contributing. To Society. Are they trying to incite a genocidal backlash? Because Europeans have done that before and they know how.

Speaking of bloody civil war, Michael G. points out today is the anniversary of the start of our last one. Mike Vanderboegh famously warned, "No Fort Sumters" - Our Side cannot shoot first. Valid arguments can be made that the shooting has begun - Waco, Ruby Ridge, Lavoy Finicum, thousands more hidden behind the Thin Blue Curtain - but the EBT-swiping tabloid-readers need more than that to make them put down their Free Stuff and brain-rotting lowbrow entertainment. They believe what they're told, and their votes cancel ours....

Real space enthusiasts hate government space programs. A firm grasp of the wrong end of the equation. We don't need an act of government to reach space, we don't need redistribution of wealth at government gunpoint to build a spaceship, we need government to GET OUT OF THE WAY.

Donald Trump shouldn't be running for President, he should be competing with Elon Musk to build the first hotel-casino-resorts in Luna City and Marsport....

You ever notice how the people who always wail about separation of church and state are the same people who want to burn the heretics on a government stake?

"Making everyone equally poor is not progress."

  • After the last American handgun ban was struck down in the Marianas Islands, the government imposes an insurmountable tax on the exercise of a Constitutional right. Explain to me how that's any different from the "literacy" tests for black voters fifty years ago.
  • Remember, peasant, you need police to protect you from HOME INVASIONS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Never call the cops.
  • Remember, peasant, you need police to protect you from ASSAULT AND KIDNAPPING. Never trust a cop of any kind.
  • A week ago I implied that police were serial rapists and child-pornographers and IT'S NOT LIBEL IF IT'S TRUE.
  • Tell me again how "law enforcement supports the Second Amendment". Tell me again how there's no police conspiracy to take my guns.
  • "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated"STOP RESISTING! STOP RESISTING! And pay no attention to the EPIC HOMICIDAL HYPOCRISY behind the Blue Wall of Silence.

The Prophet Heinlein said, "Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort." Every tool created to fight terrorists today can be used to oppress the innocent tomorrow.

restrictions both on and off the range growing and

    I don't like that.

The Lairds of Fairfax are demonstrably lacking in ideological purity. This is what I'm getting for my life membership? This is supposed to make me want to spend money to travel and attend the national convention?

How long until income taxes are adjusted, in either direction, based on ethnicity? In the name of "social justice"? You know they've been thinking about it for decades. Of course if you consider massive welfare fraud you realize it's already been happening for decades.

It's a common collectivist-statist fantasy that they can just order the Air Force to bomb those knuckle-dragging gun-nut rebels in Montana or Texas. WHAT IF THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE OBEYING THOSE ORDERS? What if the regime has so thoroughly and methodically and deliberately insulted and humiliated and abused the entire military for so long that the military will turn their weapons on the regime instead of on the people?

  • Registration leads to confiscation. AND THEY'LL KEEP CHANGING THE "LAW"

"Actual scientists don't propose jailing people who disagree with them." AND NA$A TAKES THE FASCIST'S SIDE.

    R. Lee Ermey, of all people, supports universal gun registration. Maybe he doesn't connect the dots, but anyone who's been paying attention for the last half-century ought to by now.

  • No, gun registration is not okay. Unless you want dead cops on decent people's doorsteps coast-to-coast....
  • "...[R]etired 'peace officers'... have an easier time getting a carry license than do most law-abiding people." "Protect and Serve" who? Considering how many police officers are convicted of serial rape and child pornography, and how many shoot themselves in the leg while holstering the weapon they've been traaaaaaained to use, and how many innocent bystanders are perforated in their reflexive magazine-dumps at securely-chained five-pound puppies, I know who can't be trusted with guns.
  • Remember, peasant, "law" is whatever some unstable bigot in black robes says it is.

I've been an all-Linux operation for a year or so now. In Linux, most things are free for the downloading. One such is DeVeDe, a DVD authoring program. It allows you to take video files, like from your camera or captured from YouTube, stick them in menus, and create a playable DVD as an .ISO file, which can then be burned to a blank DVD with another free program, Brasero, or even transferred to a Windows machine and burned with something I expect is native to MicroSoft. IT APPEARS TO WORK AS ADVERTISED and now I have a capability I never could figure out in Windows. You can even add subtitles as .SRT files, which are just text files made of timing codes formatted a certain way, which anyone can (tediously) make with any-old text editor. • " An off-duty Houston police officer cleared in a 2011 fatal shooting outside a bar was considered 'legally intoxicated' by his department when he opened fire on two unarmed men ... But the conclusions in the report ... were never presented to the grand jury that cleared Coronado because courts have ruled that internal police investigations cannot be used against officers in criminal cases." ...Sounds like he has a stellar career ahead of him as a "law" enforcement officer. Seriously he sounds like just the kind of "diversity" the law enforcement community is looking for these days.

    Which segues to:

  • "...[W]e should all be aware that it's not unusual for criminals to pretend to be law enforcement officers." Anything coming through your door without your permission INTENDS TO HARM YOU AND DESERVES TO DIE. And it's the police's own fault for using home-invasion-gang tactics.
  • What if it wasn't an impersonator? So accustomed to preying on the innocent, expecting to get away with murder in the name of "officer safety" and "department protocols", what if it really is an actual cop who can't see the lines anymore because all his "Brothers in Blue" have been erasing them for decades?
  • To which dot connect, "Why in the world would someone who has been convicted of armed robbery still be working at Veterans Affairs?" Because of the same government-employee-above-the-law mentality, that's why.
  • And as if on cue, remember, peasant, you need police to protect you from DRUNK DRIVERS. And if one of us had hit one of them do you think we'd get probation?
  • Look, peasant! Police will be wearing body cameras! This will restore trust and confidence in law enforcement!
--"During a six-month trial run for body cameras in the Denver Police Department, only about one out of every four use-of-force incidents involving officers was recorded."
--"With their weapons drawn, the agents turned the security cameras against the wall and tore the store to pieces."
--"80% of dashboard cameras in [Chicago] PD patrol vehicles don't record audio - either because officers are activating them incorrectly, or because they're intentionally damaging or concealing them."

I was surrounded by thought-criminals all day. Srsly I expected some haughty veeegan to sic the sociopaths-with-badges on us while slashing our tires. This is what's become of the very first thing in the Bill of Rights - you don't dare express your beliefs for fear of random violence or governmental oppression.

I'm out of shape. I can see Fifty coming over the horizon, I have the family arthritis, and the spare tire is In The Way. Prone is still not much of a problem but the traditional Sitting positions are very difficult, with my front sight bouncing several minutes of angle with every heartbeat and I can barely breathe. Loosening the belt and undoing the button on the jeans and some by-God deliberate preparatory stretching like a serious athlete helped noticably. Today was instruction in the basics. And I need new gla$$e$ al$o, $igh. Rapunzel's barrel and free-float tube just got pushed back again.... The traditional positions were illustrated and practiced, with three different versions of Sitting shown in addition to Kneeling. Both Center Hold and Six-o'-Clock sight pictures. Post-and-aperture, blade-and-notch, bead-and-notch (Ruger 10/22 factory sights as opposed to the recommended type), and a scope reticle. The day starts with a Redcoat diagnostic target, to estimate the existing skill level (and to see if your weapon is still sighted in). On the left, the first target of the day and the first rounds I'd fired with that weapon in years; on the right, the last:

So I actually did improve. (The 400-yard target on the bottom left, I didn't count as intentional.) I've done all this before but the skills are perishable and this whole weekend is sort of an expensive practice session for upcoming CMP matches. Tomorrow we do the AQT and try for the Rifleman patch. Which I have but it's six and a half years old and now they have a pin I can order with a recent and valid score and I need to put that on my hat with all the others.

One technical tidbit I learned while helping a new shooter: My LTR is a 1980s-vintage 10/22 with the original flat magazine release, from back when there were only two or three factory models instead of twelebenteen:

Some years ago, Ruger made an extended paddle type standard on, it seems, all current models:

And that gets in the way of operating the bolt lock, which is the most infamously difficult part of the 10/22's manual of arms. (I should do another video on just that....) People who haven't been doing it for years have real trouble with it without that paddle giving them even less room to work. For comparison here's an aftermarket type which improves the original without making something else worse:

Surprisingly not terribly ache-y, though the Project has reduced their course of fire due to the last seven years of not-unjustified-panic-induced ammunition drought (they had some bricks of CCI something available for sale, but only to (parents on behalf of) youth shooters under 18). More tomorrow! And if something terrible doesn't happen, back to the same club again next Saturday for IPSC(-style) handgunnery like I used to do back when the universe pooped on me less often.

Show, chat & show every Sunday 1100 and 1700PT. Missed the first one because

I WENT TO APPLESEED again where I just barely made Rifleman again, with a 210 on one and 211 on another of five AQTs, according to an official scorer. One was scored slightly lower, and the other considerably higher, than I scored them myself. Now I can log in to the RWVA Forums and order the pin for my hat.

Appleseed is an all-weekend event. The first day is Serious Instruction in the traditional positions and the fundamentals of operating a rifle, by which I don't mean what the buttons and levers do which you ought to know before signing up for Appleseed. Tube magazines are contraindicated. The Ruger 10/22, in its various guises, remains the favorite for LTRs, followed by box-fed Marlins, I think I saw a Mossberg Plinkster, and... there isn't a lot else in current production that's suitable for conversion to a Liberty Training Rifle. A detachable-box-magazine-fed .22LR semiautomatic rifle or carbine, with a sling and preferrably with military-style sights, and at least two 10-round magazines which you know are reliable, is the definition of the LTR. For a while Marlin, or perhaps a distributor-exclusive, was offering a M795 so arranged, but those seem to have been discontinued.

The second day is to apply what's been learned on the aforelinked AQT. Scoring 210 or better, of a possible 250, earns Rifleman status. I barely made it. My eyesight has changed since the last time I did this and I'm having real trouble seeing the front sight as clearly as I should. It bears repeating that Appleseed is a physical event, where you are stretching and squashing yourself into various positions multiple times, and the arthritis and knees and spare tire are really getting in the way of that. If all you know about rifles and riflery comes from an XBox game, if you spend more on nachos than ammunition, you're gonna get beat up trying to keep up.

Quality ammunition is a necessity also, and a difficult one after seven-plus years of drought. This weekend I was using Federal red-box #AE22, from a four-hundred-round brick, copper-plated hollowpoint. Last time I used Federal blue-box #510 unplated solids, which I haven't seen for less than a gouged price for those seven-plus years. I had several misfeeds this weekend with the AE22 but I don't recall any six or seven years ago with the #510. Of which I have one precious brick left in my hoard which maybe I shoulda taken after all - I also noticed some inconsistency in the AE22, weak ejections, not every report sounding exactly the same. One time, at a previous Appleseed years ago, one shooter had at least two different brands/types of .22LR in a bag and was just... mixing them in the same stage. You can't even get a group that way much less adjust your sights to put said group on a target. Appleseed needs a full brick of .22LR, per shooter, per weekend, maybe more. And that brick should be an actual full brick, all with the same lot number, made by the same people on the same machines under the same astrological sign and phase of the moon with blood from the same sacrificial goat mixed into the priming compound. You need to eliminate ammunition as a variable. Most of Remington's .22LR product line does not bear consideration in my experience, though the guy next to me was doing amazingly well with a milk-carton of the infamous Golden.

During this weekend's Appleseed I barely made Rifleman again, on the very last AQT of the weekend and one other. I took Precious, my only complete AR, but never took her out of the car. I built Precious from parts over about half a year and she still gets tinkered with. For those of you building yours, here is an affordable AR armorer's tool which eliminates the problems some of the expensive ones have. The one I do have does appear to have that thick coating which will change its dimensions as it flakes off.

Rapunzel is intended to be a long-range precision AR, while Precious would be a multirole carbine - though I'm seeing a lot of 3-Gunners on YouTube using 20" barrels and extended-length free-float tubes. Such a barrel and tube are the next components I hope to buy for the Rapunzel Project, $igh, followed by a quality trigger and optics. A while back I found one I liked the look of but cost is a factor and here's a new one for a lot less.

Seriously. Go to Appleseed. I think I spent about 350 rounds - I was on the last box of the 400-round brick (the 400 was a preemptive response to a proposal, in the Clinton years, to require an "arsenal" license for 1,000 or more rounds of ammunition, which back then was only twenty bucks for two 500-round bricks, which were actually on the sagging and overflowing shelves). So seriously, get on the internet and hunt down a whole brick of something quality and have it in hand, before registering for an Appleseed near you. This stuff gets my endorsement, if you can find it, while this stuff was giving me misfeeds and inconsistent ejection, even a couple stovepipes.

Eyes. They worry me. I had real trouble focusing on the front sight of a 10/22-based LTR at Appleseed, and now I find difficulty in getting a sight picture with the 1911 I hope to use this weekend in my first handgun match in many moons. Experiments at the hovel with and without glasses are not encouraging. The Queen, with her longer sight radius, is better, but Precious' front sight is half a foot closer than the LTR, so even worse. I can get single-vision glasses at the local Mega-Lo-Mall place for seventy-odd bucks, and I could afford that with the next paycheck, but what if single-vision is no longer the answer? Bifocals don't do well with sighting systems. Progressive lenses may not work either, because in prone for riflery, I'm looking through the top left corner of the starboard lens. Pretty much the same with a Weaver grip in pistolcraft. I can drive fine with the too-many-years-old glasses I have, and I can read fine when I take them off, but the focus boundaries have definitely shifted. I've read about people taking their rifles to the optometrist, but around here just broaching the subject would get a fellow murdered by unquestioning-sociopaths-with-badges.

Used my Cheap Philippine Clonetm 1911, in forty-by-Gawd-five of course. This was the first test of the replacement barrel I got several moons ago. And it ran fine, but shot way left. Fortunately there was a warmup target in the unused shooting bay, I observed the fall of shot, whipped out the multitool, cranked the rear sight over, and everything seemed fine for the rest of the match.

Except in the second stage, requiring weak-hand shooting, where my grip sucked and I feathered the trigger and scared the crap out of the match director who thought my pistol was doubling. I figured out what was happening - I'd done it before with the Queen - but he wasn't sure. In between other stuff he and I went back to that test target and fired some rounds and all seemed well, and I was even granted a reshoot for that stage.

Turns out I had exactly enough rounds for the day, one Winchester white-box of factory Ball and 67 of the old batch of handloads which apparenly are not going sideways anymore since I changed barrels LOYALREADER who thought my Lee Factory Crimp Die was undersizing the bullets (though the next batch will be with a Hornady taper-crimp die instead). Official results to follow but I "won" First in the Limited 10 division, of which I may have been the only entrant. I'll see how I placed overall when they email the spreadsheet in a day or three.

In other news, MILLICENT LIVES or will with a bit more coaxing. Millicent, as you may recall, is the Remington Model 1100 found abandoned a year or three ago as an actual pile-o'-parts in the back of sumd00d's shop, whose reassembly and redressing for racing required a few moons. In dry practice with dummy rounds, she locks empty every time she cycles regardless of rounds in the magazine, but forum discussions suggested that's a normal timing issue with the Remington trigger group lifter thingy and it's supposed to work right in live fire with the round being spat out of the tube whacking into some fiddly-bit.

This poor abandoned shotgun, estimated 1972 vintage, whose action spring tube and nut are also badly rusted and whose buttstock may have been shortened not for a youth shooter but for water damage, may not have spoken for decades. Her first shot today, single-loaded, was a stovepipe. Another such locked back normally. Two rounds loaded resulted in normal feeding but a final stovepipe. Three rounds worked perfectly. The final test - I only brought one box of plain Mega-Lo-Mart #7-1/2 and there was other stuff happening and it's an hour's drive back to the hovel - at full ten plus one capacity all ran perfectly, though I was surprised by the noticably slow cycle time. Hopefully some CLP will fix that. So now I know my replacement for Saint John, the centenarian long-recoil Model 11, will serve as a 3-Gun racer. And will give me a one-or-two-round advantage over the competition I'm likely to face in these small, local, unofficial matches. Woo. The fiberoptic sights clamped onto the vent rib of the spare barrel I picked up a couple years ago also appear to be Close Enough, judging by the reactions of the bits of debris I was aiming at on the backstop, and they even stayed on the barrel. Next would be to get the Easyloader installed, since I paid money for it and I even know where it is.
