GUN SHOW! FUN SHOW! IT'S PARTY TIME! IT'S EXCELLENT! GUN SHOW!
LoyalReader once again transported me to a more-distant gun show and the hunt is on for Remington 1100 parts.
And the Parts Geezers WERE NOT THERE. 8-(
Bought instead one new-in-bag PMAG10, for prone shooting with either Precious or Rapunzel, $15 (considering shipping, fair enough, and the table right next to them wanted $20 for the exact same thing); bundle of 50 AR chargers and two guides, $10; and a full set of Lee .30-06 dies which I already have but this was only ten bucks including the Factory Crimp Die which I now have three of, so what if it's a little rusty ten bucks. I like Lee dies, they're tough. And the locking ring works perfectly if you understand why it works so nyah.
-Interestingly, the GenM3 PMAG10 comes with a cap but does not allow the cap to be stored on its base. -Oh, duh, the tail of the cap would then strike the lower receiver at the magazine well or trigger guard, preventing insertion. I do wish they offered the PMAG10 in Olive Drab Green to match their other furniture, maybe after they've settled in Wyoming/Texas, they're pumping out the black stuff before they get Waco'd and I understand that. I also wanted a PMAG10 in case I go hunting someday, as Magpul also offers a minus-5 limiter insert for PMAGs, resulting in a legal-in-all(?)-states 5-round magazine. That can wait. Some states, .223 is legal for deer, and with something comparable to the Mk262 load, with, say, a GameKing instead of a MatchKing, it might even be humane. Also I could, $omeday, presuming we avoid Bloody Civil War and/or Depopulation Event, build a 6x45mm or .25-45 Sharps upper, for more throw-weight; those choices would not require changes to the lower receiver, magazines, or even the bolt carrier group. But Rapunzel, for logistical reasons, will be .223, with a NATO or Wylde chamber and a medium 1-8" or -9" twist, if I can ever afford the (20") barrel. (Precious is 1:7", 16", and the only stuff I've really used in her so far is M193-equivalent, which is in the neighborhood of 2MOA and anywhere near that is a Good Day for me.)
Michael G. sends the BURN THE SCHOOLS o' the Day: ""School shooters are not, and never have been, stopped by defensive tactics. You either deny them targets in the first place, or you bring the fight to them. Period."
But that's not what the powers-that-be want: Massachusetts schools begin collecting students' fingerprints.
This is why I haven't even considered dating for years.
And I see entirely too many of these... things in my courier travels. Couldn't change a flat tire to save their own lives....

The downrange end of the 100yd line was littered with .40 and 5.56mm, the Thug Calibers, all the way to the backstop:
And while there I could hear the local gangs doing what sounded like indiscriminate magazine dumps at the old quarry down the road. Also, I found an AR charger, and it looks like someone pried the cartridges out sideways because they have no idea how it's supposed to work:
I do wonder if it was one of the thug gangs using tax-funded ammunition, nary a day goes by without proof they barely know which end the hot stuff comes out of. Tried to salvage it but it's too rough. And I bought 50 more that weren't vandalized on Saturday.
I only fired 35 rounds, starting with 15 Federal black-box 55gr to confirm the old zero - which wasn't quite as zeroed as I thought:
Then I switched to 20 rounds Wolf, which was only a couple-few MOA off and quickly clicked in:
But, it does appear to be inherently less accurate than American-made stuff, even with the different weights and the fast twist supposedly meant for 62gr.
Also, I tried my old Simmons 40mm red-dot. First I tried to co-witness it, as before (the integral mount did not keep zero from last time):
Results were discouraging:
So I took that off and will continue with the A2 sights (I have a smaller, aftermarket front post).
My eyes are not what they used to be. Or rather my glasses aren't. I should do $omething about that. I hope I don't need bifocals. I've read about some competitive shooters bringing their rifles (by prearrangement of course) to the optometrist so they can get in position and illustrate the problem. Probably even broaching the subject, in this commie Blue State town, will get me SWATted... and I can't afford a proper optometrist anyway, it'll hafta be one of those mall places, likely America's Best. $igh. Also, the ALG mil-spec trigger is a Very Large Improvement over the gritty, creeping scrap that usually comes in a Lower Parts Kit, but it could be better. At the Cabela's store they had CMC drop-in units in a bubble-pack on a rack, $igh.
Saw something tragic today - a years-abandoned fuel station:
"The Left’s organizing principle is control, and the possibility that children might commonly be raised outside of its control matrix is an existential threat from the progressive point of view."
Col Kratman's latest column examines terrorism. "The SS guards at Auschwitz, for God’s sake, thought they were the good guys." And as if on cue.
Which segues to:
A stick in the eye of the kitten-stompers of BATFE. "...Bureau management actions against Cefalu had been ongoing since he complained about an illegal wiretap plan in 2005." Any cop who tries to not be evil is driven out and destroyed. Very few get anything resembling justice. -This is not truly Lighter News of course, since the entire apparatus SHOULD NOT EXIST.
Example: "The Durham County Sheriff's Office confirmed via its Facebook page that records kept as part of the County's handgun registry have been destroyed." Which certainly sounds Lighter but never trust a cop of any kind.

"A Dallas hospital’s bizarre bungle of the first U.S. case of Ebola leaves me wondering: Is someone covering up for a crony billionaire Obama donor and her controversy-plagued, taxpayer-subsidized electronic medical records company?"
"...[A]t least ten fighters for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria have been apprehended while attempting to enter the southern U.S. border."

In Oregon, some bigotry may have been deterred. Keep smacking the bigots.
Prohibition Will FAIL "The "monopoly" is busted, and can never be restored. That's cause for celebration."
The Battle of Washington State.... "The National Rifle Association opposes I-594, which may explain the media's knee-jerk support of the measure."
"But ya know? Obama's last two anti-gun [Supreme Court] nominations were made when the Republicans had more than enough votes to filibuster those nominations into oblivion, and they didn't."
Michael G. sends the Huxley-esque BURN THE CRECHES o' the Day.
"Imagine if voter ID laws were as rigorous as gun regulations...." Yes, Bob Barr's ideological purity can also be questioned but srsly, imagine that.
SPEAKING OF CHILDREN in the place where Britain used to be. The police knew and did NOTHING.
The other day Mr. E., perennial nationally-ranked rifleman, sent me the video which is included, and flayed, in the link Michael G. sent today. "You don’t want to criticize anyone who gets emotionally distraught by the sight of scrambled eggs. It would seem to be its own punishment."
And, yes, after viewing the video, I had Chicken Helper for dinner. Orange Chicken, which Winco doesn't carry; you have to hunt through the various Grocery Outlet stores hoping to get lucky (they're really liquidation/freight-salvage places you know). There's also a Teriyaki version which is just as good, and Lo Mein which I had only once and haven't seen anywhere since. Oh, and Lemon Herb, that's good.
Since it looks like we'll be doing that Red Dawn stuff any day now, tips for using ALICE gear. There's a lot of it still out there.
Speaking of gear, just the other day I was miserating to blogbrother SMLE Fan that the only way I'd ever get a Leupold would be to take it off'n a dead bluebelly.
Bigelow Aerospace, developers of inflatable space habitat modules, will be flying actual hardware soon. FASTER PLEASE
Speaking of space, Antarctic sea ice at ALL TIME RECORD HIGH NA$A, ALGORE HARDEST HIT.
Finally getting to work on the BFT and BFD for the Kalashnikov. Should be online sometime next week.
The Battle of Washington State, with national implications. "Since when do Americans let bodyguard-protected billionaires buy out their gun rights? ...Many people don't realize that criminals don’t have to register their guns...." Problem there is, some "people" really believe that anyone who's ever read that Constitution-thingy is a "criminal". They will not see any difference between a carjacking, home-invading, serial-rapist gang member, and a jobholding, taxpaying, NRA member.
State GOP endorses 591, opposes 594 - took them long enough didn't it.
Nor are they the only "allies" whose ideological purity must be questioned: "...Gottlieb launched into a full-scale support of background checks." Which immediately result in registration, which inevitably leads to confiscation. "...[T]his law will never be undone short of setting s*** on fire."
It's not Godwin if they really are advocating the Fuhrerprinzip.

"By mutual agreement due to current circumstances, the on-air George Zimmerman discussion with Mark Walters on the October 19th Armed American Radio Show has been postponed." Lemme guess, the tolerant, inclusive crowd threatened to torch the studio and murder the interviewer's children. Because everyone else is "raaaaaaaacist".
IT IS AS THOUGH IT WERE ON PURPOSE BURN THE SCHOOLS
Everyone else is quoting the first line, I'll quote the next-to-last: "But you won't change reality, nor the mind of an attacker."
THEY ARE AT WAR WITH REALITY
Which segues to: Obama: You Can't Get Ebola 'Sitting Next to Someone on a Bus;' CDC: 'Avoid Public Transportation'
So a while back NRA opposed an openly-treasonous and agenda-driven Surgeon General who cared far more about punishing "undesirables" than about public health... and somehow that means some guy catching Ebola in Liberia and hopping a plane to the United States is all NRA's fault but pay no attention to the thousands of "unaccompanied" "children" streaming through our southern "border" and reintroducing TUBERCU-F***ING-LOSIS.
"...[T]hese spiritual souls want the power of the state, through armed enforcers, to bend those of different beliefs to their will. Or else."
BURN THE SCHOOLS BRAINWASHING FACTORIES
A CHALLENGE TO NFA34. Which, let us remember, was only upheld by forfeit, in the atmosphere of terror and government expansion brought on by Prohibition, which was, oh hey, a government policy.
$IGH bought a cheap Chinese MOLLE backpack, Fieldline Tactical "Patrol Day Pack", $12, shrug. No progress on the Millicent Project. Fiddled with a BSA 3-9x scope with Mil-Dot reticle, but it was not First Focal Plane so the dots didn't expand with the zoom. It came with instructions and a chart but that's too much work. MidWestReader pointed out some fixed-power Mil-Dots, from SWFA, Rapunzel will probably get something like that eventually.
VISUAL AIDS O' THE DAY
They really believe "...that mere proximity to a gun causes otherwise healthy people to lose their minds and resort to violence."
In the place where Britain used to be, "Gangs raping children get let off and ignored, people making comments about it get chased down and treated more severely than the rapists."
IT IS AS THOUGH IT WERE ON PURPOSE to which dots connect:
Show & chat every Sunday 1100PT, featuring interview with a representative of NFA Freedom Alliance, which I have added to the front and links pages.
Michael G. sends the Blood Libel o' the Day: "...[U]tterly ignorant of the relevant facts of the [George Zimmerman] case – so much so that they get the facts backwards and therefore arrive at astonishingly incorrect conclusions. This is especially notable given that they are speaking of the case in their professional capacity."
(See also: "Chen went to great lengths to make up fake email addresses and even assume the names of other scientists to write approvingly of his own research." DON'T GO TO COLLEGE)
Then comes more of the same: they really believe the exact opposite of reality. And are willing to exterminate anyone who doesn't share their delusions.
But the EBT-swiping Obama-voters don't want to know that "No president in recent memory has so hectored the American people on the dangers of elites, and no president in the last half-century has so enjoyed the perks and culture of the elite."
Nor do they want to know that "instead of letting voters make informed decisions at the polls, the administration controls the information" about the looming trainwreck that is Obamacare.
Meanwhile, Occupied Connecticut evidently wants to go Judenfrei.
"Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
WE ARE ALL SO F***ED
You can help bring down the National Firearms Act of 1934!
Speaking of Prohibition, it will always FAIL note the basic operating principle is the same as the Armbrust. And shaped charges ain't no big deal neither. Where's your God MRAP now?
He mentioned this in chat yesterday but I didn't see the posts until later: Blogbrother SMLE Fan has acquired a Luger-Like Object!
SO! The WWII-themed Allies vs. Axis match is next month and hardly anyone shoots on the Axis side anymore. I used to, with my VZ24 Czech Mauser, which has a Timney trigger and dual-aperture Mojo sights. Haven't fired it in years, using the Queen, my M1, instead. But I get this itch to use the Mauser again and I hunt for rounds and... I don't have enough for the 46-plus-sighters described in the course of fire. Oh, I have a hundred live handloads... fifty of one batch which is not enough for something I haven't checked the sights on in half a decade, then thirty and twenty of a different powder which is presumably the same load but different vintages. SO! Dig through the Dangerously Disorganized Reloading Table of DOOOOOM for the green plastic RCBS kinetic bullet puller - dodge and re-stack the inevitable junkslides - and git ta' hammerin'. ...When the neighbor and cat are both out. All 100 rounds use the same Sierra 150gr bullet, and even the same Federal brass and Winchester primers, but I intend to redo them all with new powder - the same as in the two smaller batches but I have a fresh pound. Hopefully I can get all that done, then make a range trip, before the match.
It's not paranoia if they really are calling for “...registration of militias, for publication of their membership lists, or for reporting of their activities....” How 'bout a gelber stern while yer at it?
The Battle of Washington State. No matter how that turns out, Massive Vote Fraud in 3, 2, 1....
And as if on cue in Occupied Colorado.
The same kind of thing in Oregon.
And Florida.
Meanwhile in Alaska (which has Constitutional Carry), The Lairds of Fairfax passively undermine a Senate race. Tell me again what I'm getting for my $500 Life Membership?
Col. Kratman's latest column continues examining terrorism. "...[M]any of these folks live in a fantasy anyway, where the rest of us are mere stage props. Indeed, that seems to me to be the default setting – basically sociopathy – of the intellectualism (I do not mean it as a compliment) behind much of the last half century’s politically inspired terrorism."
"Health officials on Monday were scrambling to identify and monitor a large number of health care workers at a Dallas hospital who could be at risk of contracting Ebola...."
And you fascist filth really think that when the people rise and (some of) the sheriffs join us, you can send in the military and they'll obey YOUR orders? Go ahead, send in the National Guard against people refusing to obey and officials refusing to enforce unConstitutional laws. I want you to. I want to see the look on your faces when they turn their weapons on you and hand their spares to us.
So I had a big week and the paycheck came through and I bought some stuff, for me. Only in America can a person go to a store's website and from the same place order a sleeping bag, a pillow, an electric beard trimmer, and a magazine extension and 3-pack of O-ring barrel seals for a Remington 1100 shotgun, and have them all shipped to his residence free. Blogbrother SMLE Fan and I have invented a new Internet Meme, TAISP: The Almighty Internets Shall Provide. The same site (Wal-Mart!) also has the synthetic replacement buttstock-and-foreend set (that comes later; I may slap a recoil boot over the wreck and go), for less than that new Cabela's store LoyalReader took me to a couple weeks ago, and I saved about ten bucks on the exact same magazine extension too.
'MURICA Compared to her, everywhere is the Third World.
...Now watch that combination of products get me raided at gunpoint....
The Battle of Washington State. Also: "Michael Bloomberg, the former dictatorial mayor of New York City, is a billionaire who uses his money as a weapon to limit people's life-choices" but I am the "eee-vill One Percent"? In my slum and my falling-apart hatchback and my dead-end courier job?
To which dot connect Your Tax Dollars At Work on everything BUT what they're supposed to be spent on. WHOSE FAULT?
Obviously it's the JOOOOOOOOS GUN COMPANIES!
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"OH. WAIT.
Across the blogosphere, there really were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and the EBT-swiping, Obama-voting, Bush-Derangement-Syndrome-suffering psychopaths don't want to know.
"The Constitution’s limits on government power helped create the most free and prosperous country on earth" and SOME people CAN'T STAND that.
On the other end of the stick:
But what do we have to enforce the quarantines?
BECAUSE F*** THEM THAT'S WHY
Finished Drake & Daniel's The Savior, tenth and possibly last in the Raj Whitehall or "The General" series. Difficult to imagine how many more directions they can take it - a female protagonist perhaps though they kinda did that in this one already. Anyway it was good and it wouldn't upset me a'tall if Drake & Someone put out more of it. Resuming, hopefully to completion this time, Flint & Gannon's 1636: Commander Cantrell in the West Indies.
The Lairds of Fairfax are endorsing the wrong candidates. What are we paying for here?
The Battle of Washington State and an unhinged bigot dancing in her own blood to destroy other people's natural human right to self-defense.
Kurt Hofmann's JPFO column has the Visual Aid o' the Day. 'If "gun control" did not propose to make us safer by hindering our ability to defend ourselves, while simultaneously counting on laws to regulate the behavior of the lawless, it might have more appeal among intelligent people. But that is precisely what it proposes, and intelligent people aren't buying it.'
Meanwhile on campus, "College students claim they were threatened after handing out Constitutions." My fictional utopia just got a little less fictional.
The monsters think they're heroes.
Tennessee looks at Constitutional Carry.
Conspiracy to commit murder FAIL. This time....
Candidate recommendations for Oregon and North Carolina.
Basic Firearms Tutorial #11, Kalashnikov, is online. See the entire series in this playlist. The accompanying Disassembly video is recorded and being edited. Scripting a BFT for the '98 Mauser, though I still need to make 7.92x57mm dummy rounds, which I'll finally get around to - SMLE Fan sent components years ago - when I run up the batch of re-reloads. Disassembly of the '98 bolt will probably be included in the BFT and not made into a separate BFD. After that I suppose will be the FAL, unless something else falls in my lap first.
First bug of the season, nose & throat.
"WAR ON WOMEN"OH. WAIT. "Rather than fearing it, we applaud the empowerment of the women we cherish. What kind of woman-hater would demand taking that choice from them?"
Michael G. sends a scene from a collapsing society. "The bus company didn’t give a darnn. And it took Baltimore police two months before they even investigated it." A couple more at Sipsey Street. GET OUT OF THE CITIES
They really believe it's all our fault and are prepared to exterminate anyone who doesn't share their delusions.

WHO DEFINES "MENTAL HEALTH"? 'Any edict that denies freedom without first ensuring that rights are respected may be convenient for the state, but that’s not why a government of limited and defined powers, established to “secure the Blessings of Liberty,” was agreed to [in] the first place.' "...[T]he point was not to make New York safer. The point was to get the mental health camel with his nose in the tent." "What they really want is a regulation that brands you insane if you apply for a gun license...."
Not unrelated, more discrimination in Tennessee.
Unhinged bigot dancing in her own blood and facilitating more maniacs like the one who crippled her. "...[Giffords] will be joined by... law enforcement officials...." "PROTECT AND SERVE" WHO?
I MUST GET OUT OF THIS HORRIBLE PLACE I am about ready to walk to Wyoming.

Now there's something you don't hear everyday: "What the gun signs in effect did was disarm a law abiding citizen, and I didn't feel comfortable being a part of that," said [Loudon County, TN] Mayor Bradshaw. "I think this makes us safer. In my opinion removing the signs is the same thing as removing a bullseye."
"WAR ON WOMEN"OH. WAIT.
FABBERS will CHANGE the WORLD when anyone can make anything without anyone's permission.
ARGH blew $100 on a 19" barrel for Millicent. Which is actually shorter than what I had in mind, since I have a +5 magazine extension on the way, but it was right there on the guy's table. And now I get to keep the long sporting barrel. So:
And furthermore:
The Battle of Washington State.... "A former Bellevue city councilwoman who supports gun control Initiative 594, and donated to that campaign, could face a misdemeanor charge for removing at least one and possibly two yard signs promoting rival Initiative 591...." BECAUSE THEY'RE SO "TOLERANT" AND "INCLUSIVE".
Visual Aid o' the Day. It's not a joke anymore.
They hate us and want us to die, Chapter MMMMCXLI.
Linux is looking better all the time. I need to change ISPs, for more bandwidth. I've been using Ubuntu with much success on a laptop for years, but the Big Fat Updates, hundreds of Mb at a time, would exceed my transfer quota and cause my Cricket connection to downshift.
Primer deactivation Science. For making dummy rounds and such.
Mr. E. has invited me to a Vintage Military (not official) rifle match on Saturday the 25th. The problem in using my own rifle is ammunition; I'm reworking the Mauser rounds for my VZ24 for a different match and those are Not Done Yet anyway, and I have exactly enough '06 handloads for the next two long-course official CMP Garand matches (though I now have components to make many more) (but I'm lazy and pooped all the time). He's offered the loan of a Mosin or Mauser with surplus rounds... he's been pestering me for years to attend more matches at different clubs, I should. Fuel and ammunition, $igh.... Then, too, after 80+ rounds in various positions, I'd be all pooped for the 3-Gun match at Wolverton the following day. So I'll have to decline. He's also invited me to a similar match at yet another club on 13 December - but I might be at a show that day instead. One of these days I'll accept.
Meanwhile I just fiddled more with Millicent, and the Action Spring is moving correctly and fully in its badly-rusted tube, so once I get the link thingy and the rest of the missing parts I expect her to run. (I'm hoping the receiver pin and trigger group will be enough to hold the Feed Latch in place without having to re-stake it.) As for the buttplate I'll probably just use a slip-on recoil pad. The +5 extension will stick waaaay out past the 19" muzzle but a lot of racers do that, Saint John the century-old Humpback already does, and the extension comes with a barrel clamp I can't use with Saint John's recoil operation. Naturally I'll be using Saint John again in the upcoming match.
Speaking of Millicent, take a close look at yesterday's photos of her replacement barrel. The TruGlo fiberoptic sights clamp onto vent-ribs, there are steps in the bases to straddle the standard sizes (like a collet shellholder in a Forster case trimmer). The rear sight, I've mounted all the way back, because Moar Sight Radius... but the 1100's rib actually angles down at that point, which isn't evident in the photos. However, I expect there to be enough adjustment range to get the right elevation. I'll be needing a range day for her too, once she's rebuilt, but the place I went last time doesn't allow shotgun slugs under any circumstances (except, I bet, for the badgethugs who do arms-length-distance magazine dumps at the far end of the 100-yard line...). In test-fitting, cheek weld for the taller sights seems to not be an issue, but might become one once I add a slip-on recoil boot and the geometry changes - in which case I'll take the butt-cuff shell carrier, with hand-sewn retaining stirrup, off Saint John, who'll be retired from racing at that point, complete with the packing foam I slipped under the elastic for a cheek riser for the exact same reason when his spare barrel got rifle sights. So that problem's already solved.
Finally disassembled all 100 rounds of 7.92x57mm handloads, preparatory to re-reloading them with fresh powder of all the same kind and lot number, for the Allies vs. Axis match a couple weekends from now. Now I have to keep an eye on the forecast for a less-sucky day to go to the range to sight in a rifle I haven't fired for half a decade. And, of course, excavate the Load Master and get that seating die (found it!) adjusted. At least I don't have to change the shellplate.
Meanwhile:

Wisely making the 7.92x57mm dummy rounds first, I lost one of the spent cases SMLE Fan sent me years ago with a crushed shoulder while adjusting the seating die. (I never could get the internal crimp to work right, vastly preferring the Lee Factory Crimp Die as a separate process. But I don't have one for 7.92 because I haven't done anything with that cartridge for years. Hopefully the cannelure-less Sierras will stay put without a crimp; they seemed to well enough in the past and there was Much Hammering to get them out before putting them back in.) But, that leaves nine, enough for a charger-ful and single-loading demonstration, so I now have all the props I need (with two pair of .308 A-Zooms for la Infanta, my only scoped rifle at this point) to begin recording a Mauser '98 Basic Firearms Tutorial. Which is still being scripted. Now would be a good time, with a little steam up and the Load Master excavated, to whip out the 100-round batch of re-reloads for my soon-to-be-staaaaar-of-the-internets VZ24 and now that's done too. Heh, bought myself some pre-congratulatory chocolate after work this morning. Now I just need a range day.

He ran fine after I cleared that one hull - which was then lost among dozens more in the mud - so it's not a broken extractor. Well, hopefully I'll have Saint John retired from racing and replaced by Millicent by next season. Anyway after clearing the failure I kept shooting at the plates and they wouldn't fall down. I could see them twitching. Factory #7½ loads, never gave that kind of trouble before. Someone said I was going right, which was plausible since I've never actually benched Saint John with his rifle sights and hadn't fired him at all since the barrel came back from the 'smith the last time with the front sight welded on, so I held a little left and had some eventual success... after emptying the caddies on my belt and the five rounds on the butt-cuff too. Also, my 1911 continues to keyhole. LoyalReader suggests the Lee Factory Crimp Die is squishing the bullets down below .451" so they don't grip the rifling. BIBLICALDELUGE
Yeah that sucked but still I WENT SHOOTING!!!1!1!!!!!11!elebenty!!!! 3-Gun at Wolverton. Adequate turnout, a couple dozen, details to follow. Mediocre performance, middle-of-pack-like... except on my last stage when Saint John had a failure to extract. Had to pry the hull out with my pocket multitool, then continue the run, which ended up at 194.something seconds. Horrible.
What I'm seeing is really shallow rifling in my Philippine clone's original barrel.
No problems with Precious, and I was pleasantly surprised to make one-shot hits on the two long-range (~100yd, 6") targets with the Wolf steel-case 62gr stuff I re-zeroed for a couple weeks ago. Pretty sure I remembered to hold high for the close-range rifle targets and I believe I had no penalties of any kind.
Videos, of course, to follow. Eventually. Takes time to edit those y'know.

Continuing self-study of yesterday's match - the StripLULA worked well and I suppose I'll need more cheap 5.56mm whose brass I need not fret over. I lost most of my .45 brass for the day but I can get more at the shows. (That's a problem with 3-Gun, there's so much happening, clear this weapon, clear that weapon, transport them to a safe area, reset these targets, replace those targets, people waiting, there is rarely time to collect your brass. To say nothing of working all the cameras before the cold drains the batteries. CMP and comparable rifle matches, handgun-only IPSC(-style) matches, and of course pin shoots, don't have all that stuff stacking up on you. This is why I spent the time, money and fuel for a range day, so I could use the 1,000 rounds of Wolf steel-case 5.56mm I acquired several moons ago. Us Po' Folks gots ta save th' brass.) 12 gauge hulls I'm not very concerned with, I'm sticking with factory loads (which can still actually be found and are often on sale) and my only shotshell loader is the Lee Load-All II, which works but not for high volume. I already have plenty of hulls if I need them, I can get bucketsful more from Wolverton, whose members still do that trap/skeet stuff.
Eyeing the remaining parts for Millicent: Action link, receiver pins, piston ring & seal, operating handle (the extended paddle-type because RaceGun). Numrich works out to $88, Midway rather less but one of the piston bits is out of stock. Set up email notification, if it comes through I think I'll jump on it. I'll leave the action spring tube bits as they are, rusted and split but still working, and slap a recoil boot over it once I find one the right size (about 4½" at the end of the wood).
Two more candidates for Rapunzel's barrel. $igh.
Now I need another range day to sight in the VZ24 and I might not get one with the BIBLICAL DELUGE.

Col. Kratman's latest column examines specific terror. "...[A]nd the police are fairly or completely helpless here, perhaps because co-opting the police was their first campaign." Ain't I been tellin' ya? Also, "genocide will at least be considered, and may be carried out." Which I also told ya.
Bought a Pachmayr recoil boot, size "Small", and it's still too big for Millicent's 1972 factory Remington 1100 stock sans buttplate & spacers. But it's not too too big and with the butt-cuff shell-carrier-with-stirrup slipped over that it should do. Also, cheek weld for the rifle-style sights appears to not be a problem so I won't have to fuss with a riser. -Pro Tip, which I believe I've stated before: Don't leave the elastic loops filled, they will stretch loose and shed your valuable rounds just when you need them. Fill them during match setup or setting out on your FTX, don't leave them full for more than a couple days.

...During the last match I singed myself just a little on Precious' gas block, as my hand crept past the end of the Magpul MOE mid-length handguard. Would have happened earlier if I had a carbine-length setup. Now you know why all the top racers have 18 or 20" barrels and rifle- or extended-rifle-length free-float tubes. That high-speed stuff needs the extra leverage of having your support hand waaaay out front. So if I ever get Rapunzel finished she might go racing too. My conception remains a 20" barrel (unless I get an awsumm deal on an even longer one) with a rifle-length gas system and an extended-rifle-length free-float tube which goes over the low-profile gas block. All I need to finish assembling her is the barrel and free-float tube, I have everything else. Well, also a higher-quality trigger, especially after:
I recently had opportunity to watch Jerry Miculek's three-DVD set on Practical Rifle shooting. It was sponsored by Brownell's, who still carry and advertise HS Precision products, which were endorsed by escaped murderer Lon Horiuchi, so it's not something I would've bought for myself, but dang, that was some useful information presented by one of the top action shooting competitors in the history of action shooting competition. Watching Jerry work his trigger, and considering how Very Good my Cheap Philippine Clonetm 1911's trigger is, Precious/Rapunzel needs a Better Trigger, $igh. The ALG Mil-Spec remains a large improvement over the garbage that comes in a typical Lower Parts Kit but it does slow me down for racing.
Ain't even started editing match videos yet, big courier load today, pooped. The rain actually broke for a couple-few hours this afternoon and I shoulda hied meself up to the range to sight in the VZ24 but, pooped.

While in Oregon, the anti-self-defense perverts use the old standby tactic of changing the rules, or at least the venue, at the last minute. Because they're so tolerant and inclusive and want all sides to be heard:
GUN BAN HEARING LOCATION MOVED 10.29.14 We have learned that the City of Corvallis has changed the location of its hearing on a proposed ban on loaded firearms in the city to the Majestic Theater. The hearing is scheduled for Nov 3rd at 5.30 PM. The theater is at 115 SW 2nd Ave in downtown Corvallis. It's imperative that Second Amendment supporters be at this hearing. If this ordinance is passed it will be one more nail in the coffin of our rights and these bans will spread across the state. Please do all you can to be at this hearing and speak out for gun rights and the Constitution.
